(Accra)The Coalition of Muslim Organizations Ghana (COMOG) has elected a marketing consultant to steer the affairs of the organization for the next four years.
Alhaj Abdel-Manan Abdul Rahman received a unanimous endorsement as he was nominated unopposed during the 5th delegates congress of the organization in Accra.
The congress was attended by member organizations of COMOG from all the 16 regions of Ghana.
The congress preceded a conference being organized by the same organization in conjunction with other stakeholder organizations, such as Muslim Caucus in Parliament and the Office of the National Chief Imam (ONCI.)
The delegates also elected Lawyer Shahadu Mohammed as the General Secretary. Shahadu is the attorney who took up the Fatima Uthman hijab case in 2012 against the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) which was subsequently settled out of court at the request of the latter.
The position of Programmes Coordinator went to Alhaji Awudu Damani Musah, a 48-year-old Development Consultant from the Western Region of Ghana.
Delegates also gave the position of Financial Secretary to Mr Mohammed Danzima, an Accra based accountant. He was elected in absentia.
In his acceptance speech, the 51-year-old president-elect assured the delegates of his commitment to serve, and also to champion the developmental agenda of the Ghanaian Muslim fraternity as mandated by the objectives of the organization.
He however requested for the support of the ummah in achieving the goals.
Haj Abdel Manan assured the ummah of an open door policy in running the national agenda, which he says will be achieved only if members will be ready to do their quota in that regard.
